The Albemarle Pipes and Drums, based in Charlottesville VA, was established in 2006 with the express purpose of performing, teaching and preserving the music and culture of Scotland and the British Isles through the music of the Great Highland Bagpipes and Drums. The band performs both locally and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Appearing with Albemarle Pipes & Drums on First Night 2020 is Catharine Burgess from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Catie is a senior at the College of William & Mary, majoring in biology and international studies. Her numerous dancing awards and trophies in competitions throughout the USA, Canada, and Scotland, include the United States Southeastern Regional Highland Dancing Championship over multiple years, and she performed with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland during August, 2019. Catie is a certified Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing instructor
