Have you ever wanted to try dancing? Here’s your chance to enjoy a mini-lesson. Dance exhibitions and instruction all evening long, courtesy of Shergold Studios. Check the schedule for the style you’re interested in. Or just drop by and dance. The music never stops.
7:00 Virginia Reel: Everyone is invited to join in the Virginia Reel, one of the easiest and most fun social dances there is.
No partner needed.
7:30 Social Dance Classes: Pick Salsa or Foxtrot.
You’ll watch a demonstration and learn a fun social dance that you can use later in the evening during the dance party. No experience necessary!
9:00-12:15 New Year’s Eve Dance Party with DJ
Derek Tobler: The staff and students of Shergold Studios will host this dance-travaganza! Music will rotate to emphasize various dance styles throughout the evening, accommodating serious social dancers, no matter what your specialty. New dancers can try out skills they learned earlier in the evening.
Or you can even just drop by to watch. You’ll see nearly every style of social dance style at some point throughout the evening. The dance will take participants right up through a midnight countdown.

Description of classes
Susan Barnard will offer a movement class for all to explore the connected and expressive mover inside each of us. Susan is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator at UVa.
Catherine Monnes will be bringing the music home to & through the body in movement and sound on this last (full moon!) night of the year. Cathy has been performing improvisational music for many years.
Charlottesville International Folk Dancers will be demonstrating and teaching beginning folk dances for the enjoyment and participation of the whole family. Sue Chase, Susan Oberman, and Mary Beth Shaw have been teaching dance for more than 30 years.
Description of Performances
Albemarle Ballet These dancers will perform excerpts from The Nutcracker and other variations.
Barnardance Susan will engage the audience members in helping her to build and perform a dance piece. Afterwards, she will perform a short solo work from her own repertory.
Good Foot Dance Company is a percussive dance theater trio. Meg Madden, Emily Oleson, and Matthew Olwell have been dancing together since 2005, and delight in taking traditional forms and melding them with unexpected subjects to form a new kind of dance theater.
Experience Dance Theatre (EDT) We are a not-for-profit dance/theatre company comprised of talented Black/African-American women who share with you through dance, music, and drama their feelings and emotions.
